Default is there a generic modafinil in the US? how hard is it to get a off label prescription?

I want to try and ask my doctor for modafinil (actually might be switching docs and would be a good time to see if I can get something else). I know it was a problem in the past getting insurance to cover the crazy price of the name brand, but I believe a generic has been out for awhile now. Does this help with having insurance cover it? Will Obamacare cover it?

How did you go about suggesting to your psy doc to prescribe modafinil?

I currently have a Wellbutrin prescription for depression, ADD, anxiety, etc.. and feel it doesn't work so I don't even take it. I asked my doctor for this one instead of straight out asking for Adderall or Modafinil so she wouldn't give me an SSRI atleast. Eventually I was going to say the Wellbutrin wasn't working and if I could have modafinil. The funny thing is she says the meds must be working but I'm not taking them, I take modafinil and some other vitamins and nootropics.

I'm scared asking for the prescription for the modafinil (or Adderall) though since they are known for recreational use and she would have to write the modafinil for off label use. And I can't say I tried modafinil by ordering it online and feel it works for me either since it's "illegal" and she will wonder how do I know it works. I know I can order it online but if I can get it cheaper from a legit pharmacy without the risk of it getting lost in the mail that is the way to go.

Dear visitor, If you are looking for an online pharmacy please take a look at the following pharmacies in our Top Rated section. Each one has genuine, uncensored feedback from real users.
  3. I think most doctors will only write a prescription for modafinil if it is on label, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Generic modafinil is available in the US, but prices for it vary drastically from one pharmacy to the next. I asked the price for the 100 mg tablets at a big chain drugstore and it was almost $20 per pill. I asked at a pharmacy in a warehouse store and the price was 90 cents per pill and they had 200 mg tablets for $1.10 per pill.

I told my doctor that sometimes I don't sleep well and have trouble concentrating at work. I asked him if he thought it would be safe for me to try modafinil. He said yes and wrote a prescription for me. He said I should also see a sleep specialist.

Modafinil is for patients with narcolepsy or have sleep disorders related to shift work. The insurance required an application from my doctors office. The company asked if I had completed a sleep study. They later denied the application. I don't mind because the price at the warehouse store pharmacy is affordable.

  4. I asked my primary for a modafinil script because my rheumatologist said I could t take caffeine anymore because of bone density, and my opiod script was making me tired.

He said no problem and gave me a prescription. The pharmacy filled it with the generic,it was covered under insurance. But a couple days after filling it I got a cryptic voice message from express scripts saying something to the effect that it may not be covered anymore the following month. I didn’t pursue it as I wasn’t planning on getting it refilled but the generic version must also cost quite a lot for the insurance company to respond the way they did.

Yes, it can be pricey because these generics are made under the rules of a sweetheart deal to manufacture the generic. Even though it is not actually produced by Cephalon, the company gets to sell licenses to generic companies like Ingenus who want to try to make money on the generic market. That way they still get a portion of the profits and thereby diminish the advantage of buying generic Provigil in the first place. When I was taking it I actually got a factory sealed bottle of the generic modafinil filled with pills that said Provigil on them. When I checked on who had actually made it I came up with a company if Florida called Orchid. So, the way things have worked out now with the FDA, an independent company cannot just set up shop and make or sell generic modafinil. They have to pay Cephalon (now a part of Teva) first and that expense gets passed on to you.

  6. Hey, does anyone know any good (preferably not pricey like Eufinil and not sketchy-looking like AfinilExpress) vendors for Modalert that have decent shipping times to the UK? Thanks a lot!
