Thread: Told Not To Come Into Work But Did Not Tell Me Why

  1. #21
    @artemis
    I agree about listing your current job. In Florida, not sure if same in all states, they ask on the application if they can contact your current employer. You check No, & when they ask why you are looking elsewhere, state something such as @calgal99 mentioned.

    Your phone call should of raised a huge red flag at HR corporate. Every place I’ve worked HR seemed to be right in the middle of everything, in respect to issues such as this. She/he should be investigating the minute you hung up.

    Good luck on job search.

    @Danie. You would think so, but I am getting tired of leaving voicemails with HR with no callbacks. I simply want to know what is going on. That's it. How hard could that be? Like I wrote before something seems to be awfully shady behind the scenes. Thank you for your response. I thought tomorrow I would call the CEO. I do not want to, but someone should talk to me.

  3. did you make a complaint with the hr department, @artemis? a hostile work environment is a legitimate complaint and one you should make since they made it so you couldn't do your job. as for new applications, you need to put in your most recent job. my son does a lot of hiring and you can just just say you are looking for a more friendly workplace but that they are unaware you are looking elsewhere so please don't contact them. they can't legally give confidential information other than when you worked there. people look for new jobs all the time: no one stays with a company anymore and sometimes you can only get a pay increase by switching. years ago it was a red flag when people looked for new jobs. millennials do it all the time and it is commonplace. i am looking for new challenges should be all you have to say if yoy don't want to criticize (my son has interviewed people from places with bad reputations and would have been shocked if they pretended the place was fine and dandy). just judge your audience.

    call the ceo. they owe you some answers.

    I would check "yes" on the box if they want to ask my current employer. If they get a call or two it will do one of two thing:

    1. They would realize that you might just escalate your complaint to a higher authority and really get them into trouble since you are not worried about losing the job.
    2. They may realize they could lose a valuable employee

    Either reaction could help you. Laying down and taking the treatment tells them they can keep doing it. And you might find a much better job

    I would stop leaving voicemails and start sending emails. You need a paper trail for backup...just my humble opinion. Also in your email to HR, list the timeline of what has transpired over the last two weeks for documentation. I also agree, don't list hostile work environment on new applications, just time to look for new/better opportunity.

    Here's an update. Just talked to my coworker. My supervisor and director had a meeting and found the complaint to be bogus (my word). Bottom line the person who filed the complaint lied. My coworker also said my supervisor wants me back at work. I just emailed the directors and playing dumb asked if they had any information regarding my investigation. In the meantime, I have an interview with another company tomorrow.

    That’s great they realized it was a bogus complaint! I hope they reprimand the person who made it. Good luck with your interview!

    Maybe they might reprimand the liar with a bull whip. This person put you through pure hell, @artemis. I'm happy that the truth came out.

    When these thing happen the first thing to do is scrutinise the employees' handbook or the relevant section of the company's website to ensure that proper procedures are being adhered to and find out exactly where you stand.

    I'm glad it all seems to be working out.
