Bitcoin is still so dang confusing to me...

I had a very hard time understand how to use btc at at the beginning but some kind folks helped me. Like most peeps, I started with coinbase, but started to read not to send from coinbase. Went through a couple more wallets - can't remember why they didn't work out so well, but I've been using cashapp for quite a while now and buy and spend with it. I have decided that it is not a good idea to try to invest as well as use it for these kinds of things as I don't want to draw any attention to the wallet due to all the spending. Kind of a bummer, but I believe the smart thing to do.

For a while I had troubles with cashapp as they didn't' have a "receipt" page; you had to go to the explorer which was way above my pay and pain grade. I lost money due to that. They now have a receipt page you can send along if needed : )

This whole topic makes me nervous. It sounds so complicated. I am pretty tech savvy but I don't want to lose money by transferring to a wallet. Is there any services that are just 1 step?

@BenzoGuy1234 I will need help when the time comes. I started to search for how to use it, but it is really hard. I was looking at Cashapp to purchase the Bitcoins, but I am lost when they start talking about "Offline" wallets and IDK if you get to take the money out right away or you have to leave it in there. I am pretty tech savvy and actually work in IT, so this make me feel like I am full retard LOL.

@Holddadoor It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Using cashapp to purchase is a fine place to start. Then you'll just have to move it to either an exchange or a few different wallets (to break the KYC and make it anonymous).

A lot of places are switching over to Monero only (the one true privacy coin that can't be tracked)

@BenzoGuy1234 I just watched a Youtube video on Monero. Seems like it is geared toward hiding transaction which I find funny. Are you personally using Monero? Can you buy BC with Monero? I am downloading and installing it on my computer. Would this be something that a NooB could figure out?

You should make a step by step of your process on this thread or start a new one. I am sure everyone who is new to this will find beneficial. Once I figure out how to do it, I will probably make a Youtube video on how to do it so that people like me will know what to do

I am confused by BC. It is like it is geared toward money laundering and hiding transaction from the government, which I don't mind at all, but from someone who has never used it sounds like it is illegal if you know what I mean

I personally do not use monero, but i am familiar with the process of using it. I should be able to find some good tutorials and primers to make things easier for those who aren't into crypto.

Yes it does embrace the whole "hide from government" narrative, but it can also be used by people who just want privacy.

@BenzoGuy1234 Yes I meant to say Bitcoin. Waaayyyyy back in my day we used this stuff called checks and this green paper stuff. Wonder what ever happended to that way of buying stuff? LOL. So, my first time with using BTC was 3 weeks ago. I transfered the money to my wallet and put in the receivers "address" thinking that said person was going to get it. Well he didn't get it.

Fast forward 3 weeks. I had a hair up my ass to look at my wallets address on Blockchain. It said that it had 1 minute and 6 seconds left to get confirmed. Im like what in the holy ****. So I emailed this person and he confirmed that he said he has some money coming in but it is taking a really long time casue I didnt put any money for the transfer fee. With 11 cents of postage it took a little over 3 weeks to reach this person.

Did I feel stupid? Yup, Yup I sure as hell did!!!

Coinbase has treated me decently well over the past few years, but I never know how long it will take to be able to send a deposit. Sometimes it's instantaneous, sometimes there is a hold on the account for a few days.

That's my biggest issue with Coinbase as well. I don't understand why other folks say they can buy and send instantly, when mine always takes awhile to be able to send it.

So @BenzoGuy1234 or anyone else who uses Cashapp. Can I just purchase the BTC with cashapp and send it from there directly, or do I have to add in the extra step like I did with Coinbase, of sending the funds to an offline wallet (I have electrum) and then send it to the receiver?

Yeah, it's the only real downside I've experienced with them. I vaguely think that the speed with which you can buy or sell depends on how often you use Coinbase? That's a trend that I've noticed - when I haven't used CB a long time, then the multi-day holds start popping up. More clarity on the matter would be great, if anyone has it.

I want it to be easy and fast, I am less concerned with stealth, at least initially. I just want it to freaking work.

I never have any holds with BTC holds on Coinbase, but then again I use it quite a bit for online casinos. I think it depends on frequency of use.

I do believe cashapp may be the easiest. I have yet to actually use it for this but I have it all set up. I have a bank account linked (not my regular one) and it’s supposed to be quite easy. Altho I still think one should probably send the funds to an offline wallet before paying a vendor, instead of just from cashapp? I have electrum.

I’m looking forward to hearing more answers from the experts tho too!! 😃

@Santa's little helper BTC is super easy and the preferred means of payment for most vendors nowadays due to the anonymity of it. Its pretty seemless. I personally use Coinbase but only because I got permanently banned from cashapp for unintentionally violating their anti-money laundering act. I had too many transactions both to and from online casinos. Some days I would just get caught and was withdrawing way more than I was depositing and all within a 2-3 hour period over and over. So yesh cashapp is good as you don't what I did.

Coinbase is equally as easy and in my opinion much more safe, sometimes its best to switch it up and purchase BTC at Coinbase and then send the BTC over to Trust Wallet or seversl other reputable ones, and then to the vendors wallet. Its a lot harder to track that way when it gets re-routed through several wallets. Ultimately I wouldn't worry about it. I much rather send BTC than do western union or money gram. Let me know if you dont understand how to do it and I'd be more than happy to help you out and walk you through it.

@jaders Definitely do the thing where you transfer to an external before sending off the funds to a vendor. I can't tell you how many people I know or have read about who have had their Coinbase or Cashapp or whichever exchange based account perma-banned for TOS violations. Another thing I see recommended is to switch up which external wallet you are using. You don't have to use a different app, just make a new wallet in Electrum or whatever you use. Or go the whole xmr exchanging route, but that can add another level of confusion and frustration for a lot of people.

Watch some simple YouTube vids on the subject. It gets easier the more you do it. At first it was def confusing for me too and intimidating! Just practice sending yourself (between too dif wallets small amounts) but always remember you usually need gas fee (Eth or Ethereum) to send! Middle of night/wee hours USA time is normally cheapest times as gas fees fluctuate due to traffic of people sending and receiving.
