What are your experiences with drug testing by Pdocs for benzos?

My long time primary doctor who prescribed me PRN alprazolam retired and the new doc am seeing is hesitant to prescribe benzos, especially alpraz.

He has agreed to prescribe a low dose PRN script for clonazepam if I sign a substance abuse policy and submit to random drug tests. I have an appointment soon and expect to be tested then.

Just seeing what other people’s experiences were in this type of situation?

Do Pdocs usually do cheaper dipstick tests or do they go straight to GC/MS? Do they differentiate between benzos?

How often are you tested? Monthly? Quarterly? Random?

What about cannabis? I am in a legal state, but I assume that could still be a problem? I occasionally use to help with sleep, but have abstained for a couple weeks in anticipation of the test.

I did buy some at home tests and am showing faint negatives at 50ng/ml.

Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through for 15 .5mg clonzapam per month, but oh well.... :/

I get a very small amount of an opiate snd a very small amount of the exact same drug your doc is looking to give you. I signed the contract at least three years ago but have never been asked for a UA so far. I’ve been going to this same pcp for at least 8-9 years tho so she knows me pretty well.

Best be PERFECT at least once to start tho. Especially since it’s a new relationship. imho.

Thes effin’ docs just don’t realize the incredible amount of power they have over our quality of life - that’s for sure…

My previous doc never tested me or requied a signed agreement so this was surprising to me when he brought it up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed I either get a pass or don’t come up hot for THC. I feel like a teenager hiding from his parents. :/

This whole criminalization of healthcare is depressing. Seems so backwards.

Absolutely. They want truthfulness and honesty and yet this stuff completely ensures no trust whatsoever. It’s so ludicrous that docs should even be held responsible tho too. Whatever you tell your doctor they need to take on faith and if YOU’VE lied - that’s on you, not them. Making them have to figure out who’s lying and who’s not is insanity…

Sadly as with politicians and any other folks with power, money ALWAYS speaks the loudest. It’s definitely a universal “language…”

Well. I went in for a for my follow up appointment to get a refill and I was indeed tested and thankfully passed! It was a 12 panel urine immunoassay. Results were back in 24 hours.

I looked at the test records in the clinic’s app and there was not a ton of info. All is said for Benzodiazapines was cutoff of 200ng/ml. Does that mean they only tested for oxazepam metabolites and didn’t break it down to individual metabolites?

Also, for reference I was/am a light-moderate cannabis consumer. I abstained for 3 weeks and was clear. I did take several at home tests and had been having consistent negatives before I went in. The lab test cutoff for THC metabolites was 50 ng/ml.

I don't know anyone in the UK that gets prescribed Xanax. Mostly they give you Valium or Clons (if they give you anything). I have considered going private but I wouldn't know where to start.

I don't know anyone in the UK that gets prescribed Xanax. Mostly they give you Valium or Clons (if they give you anything). I have considered going private but I wouldn't know where to start.

That’s interesting. Valiums are relatively tough to get in the US while Xanax is still regularly prescribed (although that is quickly changing in favor of Klonopin ).

When I had my xanax prescription I even asked about changing to Valium and was told that would be frowned upon.

@CrockPotz Thats odd right? The UK prefers benzo's that last longer like Clons but Valium tends to be a common go to for generic purposes. We had serious issue's with Xanax (and valium) here in the UK in the 70s/80s and they fell out of favour after. They only really get prescribed for severe panic attacks these days. The UK and US have always been at odds with drug use (even illegal), there are many drugs in the US that never took off in the UK, like Meth etc.

I never had to sign an agreement with my doctor, but I know as people start coming back to the office I’m would guess that they will start up the testing. I don’t use any THC products because of anxiety, I did use kratom for a bit but that’s going in the bin. I don’t want to have to explain or worse yet lose what prescriptions I do get.

@VeronicaC For a normal doctor forget it in all Europe. You should pass doctor, specialists and then if they send you to a pain clinic they might be prescribe you Alprazolam. But you will have to make a tour so you are not suspicious of using it for fun, selling and so on. Some techniques on how to pass a casting are useful, other people look at the doctor and if you start with dry mouth, inconnex words = you don't have the X factor, bye

@NomiTramadol You can't really get away with much in the UK, our medical services are all interconnected. You can request that a private doctor not send details to you're GP but that would just look very suspicious.

@NomiTramadol No, they are generally run separately although they can and do communicate. You can have an NHS G.P and go to a private specialist for specific treatments. Likewise, you can have a private GP and see an NHS specialist. Many private doctors are also NHS docs, its a very common practice in the UK for doctors to do both.

@VeronicaC In theory (Not Uk) but with the european healt card a doctor from Lithuania and a pharmacy should have know what I take, my medical history and give me my medication. In the practice they laugh at you in best case or usually: no no, pay the full services and then claim to your country.

Scotland is already an 'independent Country' to a certain extent. The Queen is the 'Queen of England but not the 'Queen of Scotland'. The Scottish government already has much autonomy from England. There is already a border 'Hadrians Wall' between Scotland and England so they would probably just use that to keep the English/Scottish out.

@VeronicaC But from controlled substances I guess no, for that and with money on the table they quickly reach an agreement I think in fact you have this British Virgin Islands, spanish and others enjoy Gibraltar, Monaco, San Marino, Luxemburg... and we haven't moved from Europe

@NomiTramadol No, it would just be the same. The Scots have NHS Scotland with its own budget/funding but it has a terrible drugs problem so it would be stricter than the NHS England. Although, different areas in England do things differently too. When we entered the EU it didn't really help us much with getting medication from other EU Countries, we could get treatment in those Countries when visiting. It would be nice if Scotland turned into Mexico
